Privacy Policy
This policy covers the Dangar Marine website (this website) and the Dangar Marine Forum. Both are run by Stuart Allen, trading as Dangar Marine, in Sydney, Australia. We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles. Last updated 4 November 2026.
This website
The guide has no accounts or sign-in, doesn't ask for personal information, and doesn't use analytics, advertising or tracking cookies. Some features, such as remembering your route through the guide and letting it work offline, store information in your own browser; it stays on your device.
Like most websites, the guide's server keeps a short-lived technical log of the pages it sends, including the internet address and browser requesting them. It's kept for no more than two weeks, and used only to keep the site secure and to count visitors; the counts kept after that don't identify anyone.
When you search or ask a question, what you type is sent to the guide's server to find the matching videos and pages. Written answers are prepared with the help of an AI service provider, which receives your question and the relevant parts of the guide, but nothing else about you, and isn't permitted to use them to train its models. We keep the questions people ask, without anything that identifies who asked them, to see what the guide is missing. Your internet address is used briefly to limit how many answers can be requested, and isn't stored with your questions.
Videos on the guide are embedded from YouTube, a Google service. When you play one, Google may collect information as described in the Google Privacy Policy. Other websites the guide links to, such as shops and sponsors, are covered by their own privacy policies.
The forum
Anyone can read the forum. To post, you sign in with your Google account, which gives the forum your name, email address and profile picture, and nothing else from your Google account.
- What's public: what you post, your username, name and profile picture, and anything you add to your profile. Your email address is never shown to other members.
- What's kept: your account, posts, messages and settings, and the technical information needed to keep the forum secure and free of spam and abuse. The forum uses cookies only to keep you signed in.
- Email: we only send the notifications and summaries you choose, through an email delivery provider that uses your address only to deliver them. Every email has a link to change or stop them.
- Spam checks: new members' first posts may be checked automatically, including by an AI service provider that isn't permitted to use them to train its models. Posts that look like spam are reviewed by a person.
- Deleting your account: you can delete it from your forum preferences, or ask us to. Your posts may be kept without your name, so that other members' conversations still make sense.
Sharing and storage
We don't sell personal information or use it for advertising. We share it only with the service providers we need to run the guide and the forum, such as hosting, email delivery and AI services, and only for that purpose, or where the law requires it. Some of these providers are outside Australia, including in the United States. The guide and the forum are hosted in Australia.
Your choices
You can ask to see, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you. If you have a concern about how we've handled it, please contact us first; you can also contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
We may update this policy as the guide and the forum change; the date at the top shows when it was last changed.
